Project Coordinator: Justice for Real Survivors

  • Volunteer
  • Remote

Website Center for Online Safety and Liberty

The Center for Online Safety and Liberty (COSL) is looking for a volunteer Project Coordinator to design and execute a multi-jurisdictional campaign to advocate against the misuse of laws, policies, and terminology that should be reserved for real image abuse (such as CSAM and non-consensual abusive imagery) to suppress or prosecute other sorts of content, such as sex education, art, and fiction.

Key responsibilities

  • Performing desk research on jurisdictions that do or do not use distinct laws, terminology, and official statistics for real image abuse cases, and creating an infographic to communicate the findings.
  • Form a coalition with survivor groups to develop and promote the position that real abuse materials should be treated distinctly from other sorts of harmful, offensive, or obscene content.
  • Promote other mechanisms to manage the harms associated with offensive fictional or artistic content, rather than censorship or criminalization.
  • Convening a drafting group to write a position statement on the issue, and opening the statement as a letter/petition for the general public to sign.
  • Working with other team members to prepare national and state level campaigns where pending laws or law reform opportunities exist to put our position statement into action.

Qualifications:

  • Strong passion for digital rights, freedom of expression, and online safety.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build networks and effectively engage stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with social media campaign management, advocacy tools, and digital organizing.
  • Comfort with collaborative international environments and cross-cultural communication.

Location: Remote

Commitment: Part-time, volunteer (estimated 5-10 hours/week).

Benefits:

  • Professional development in advocacy, lobbying, and project coordination.
  • Networking opportunities within global digital rights and civil liberties communities.
  • Meaningful contribution toward protecting online freedom and safety worldwide.
